ARE THE COURSES ONLINE THE REAL DEAL? for example – uk open learning college?

Posted under Beauty Courses Online by admin on Wednesday 15 April 2009

i would like to do my beauty therapy and nail technician course online but am a little bit wary thta the qualifications i would get a tthe end of it would not be the correct ones needed to begin work in this proffession. i understand the concept of SVQ and HNC/D’s but not too sure about ASET level 3 diploma. can some one please help as i dont want to waste my money if its all a scam and i wont be qualified at the end of these courses. please help!!!!!!!!
due to money commitments, i cannot afford to give up my job so going to college is out of the question folks. but i do agree with what you are saying, its important to have practical experience as well as theory.

I don’t know about the Uk, but I know a lot of people in the States who have taken online courses and they have been legit.
That being said, if what you are trying to learn is something you need to do hands on, it is probably better to do it in the traditional way. Will you really be able to be a nail technician if you’ve never actually worked on anyones nails before?

  2. First thing to ask yourself….is weather or not it’s possible to actually learn much of anything useful for your program if you’re not around other people while learning.

Pretty much anything art-related is pretty much useless without peer evaluations. That’s a lot harder to do through an online classroom.

A writing class would be VERY practical online, because the medium is easily transfered online, and it allows the face of the author to be absent from the picture much easier.
I mean….as much as I’d like to think it doesn’t happen…..the appearance of a writer in a classroom environment can impact that person’s grade. A grade in a writing class should reflect only one thing….how well that person writes.

If you’re going for fashion school…..I’d strongly urge NOT to go to an online academy. Doing nails is something that should be evaluated in person…..just answering questions doesn’t qualify a person to do brain surgery…..and while nail tech is admittedly far less important….it’s still a SKILL and not just a peice of information one can aquire.
Skills must be developed….knowledge must be aquired. They go well together, but the skill should be developed in a suitable fashion……online schools are not that fashion.
