Im thinking of doing a online course (beauty) but i wondered is it a con and do you get proper certificates. Or is it worth doing. its abit hard to go college right now as i have a young child. Also has anyone else done this b4 thanks
i see what you mean with beauty courses as you will need to preactise on people but iv seen a nail technician course online and they give you a fake hand and nails and you send your nails when complete to the tutor each week. but it is a big risk to take incase it doesnt get me anywhere
A lot of colleges have onsite creches nowadays & some offer evening courses. I think learning hands on is better than learning online & most employers would probably view an online qualification as worthless compared to a college qualification.
Edit – I’ve been having my nails done for years, acrylics & gels. The only times I’ve ever had sh*t nails were the 2 times I let someone who learned online/at home. There’s no short cut to learning the job properly. My local college does an intensive beauty therapy course, 3 days a week, during school hours lasting for one academic year. However most people are qualified by Easter so it doesn’t take long. They also have a low cost creche. It’s worth checking out your local college.

Who is the awarding body for the qualification? Research them. Katies right alot of the beauty therapy course is actually practicing and performing the treatments, you cant do that online so it sounds dodgy to me.
Edit – With the nail tech course I would again check the
awarding body to see if it’s for real, if so it sounds okay, you could always work for yourself from home or as a mobile nail technician, that way you won’t have employers questioning the qualification.
Edit – Take a look at the nail technician course on uk-open-learning.com looks good at £325, you can pay it over 8 months and the awarding body is recognised.

I am a qualified Beauty therapist.
Do you mean do your beauty course online????
I actually have never heard of that before and my sister is a beauty therapist…she was just like you, she was working full time and had no free time to go to collge…what she did was paid for her courses..there like intensive training for a day. They teach you what you want to learn and you become fully qualified at the end of the day….(if you do well of course!)
You get the certificate and everything! I think thats a good way you should look at it!
