What do u think would be the first step in starting this as a small business? I know i would have to apply for different licenses and fill out tax forms, etc….but, what should i do first? i would also have to build a website and of course, purchase the products i would like to sell. I’m just not sure exactly what move to make first to get things going at a good start. Any advice i’m sure will help. thanx!

You can do it! Beauty products just happens to be one of the top selling products online. Write down your step-by-step plan on paper. For example;

1.Create your company name.
2.Register your name.
3.Form your business structure; Sole Proprietorship.
4.Obtain your business/occupational license.
5.Obtain your resellers license (sales tax license).
6.Get signed up with beauty products distributors.
7.Choose which products/product lines you are going to specialize in.
8.Read about the products
9.Decide if you are going to build your own e-store or have it built for you.
10.Choose your domain name with our main keywords in your domain name.
11.Register your domain name
12.Choose a webhost provider and a hosting plan.
13.Choose your web development software.
14.Start building your e-store.
15.Set up your merchant account.
16.Complete your e-store.
17.Promote, market and advertise your e-store.
18.Then wait for the orders to start rollin in.

Of course it’s not that simple but it can be if you just take it one step at a time. Write a simple step-by-step business plan just as you see here. Then follow each step and then scratch it off of your list as you complete it. Before you know it you’ll be taking your first order.

Hope this helps.

i am 16 yrs old and working full time at the moment…not in a salon and i want to do a beauty course. i was going to go back to college in september to do one but that means i will have to give up work. are there any free beauty courses i can do at home by myself?

A scientist, an engineer, an economist and a beauty graduate are at the table of the restaurant. The scientist asks "can it work?" The engineer asks "can we make it?" The economist asks "can we sell it at a profit?" The beauty graduate asks "are you gentlemen ready to order?"

can anyone help?? my girlfriend is wanting to do a home beauty course so can anyone recommend a good reasonably priced one? she cant go to a local college to do a course as we are due to move within the next few months and not sure when so she cant settle into a college for too long… thanks

Perhaps ask around at local beauty salons to see if they know of local courses/individuals who might be able to teach your gf. There may be freelance beauty therapists in your area who could train her on a more informal basis for a nominal fee, although she would then not receive any kind of official qualification. It is doubtful whether there are any correspondence courses for beauty as it is a very much hands-on field (unlike English or Psychology for example). Local councils can also provide details of courses offered in the local area and would be able to advise of what might be suitable under your circumstances. There is a website providing details of home study courses at www.BSYgroup.co.uk….try them to see if there’s anything you fancy but obviously this is not a personal recommendation because it depends on what your gf is looking to learn.

Im thinking of doing a online course (beauty) but i wondered is it a con and do you get proper certificates. Or is it worth doing. its abit hard to go college right now as i have a young child. Also has anyone else done this b4 thanks
i see what you mean with beauty courses as you will need to preactise on people but iv seen a nail technician course online and they give you a fake hand and nails and you send your nails when complete to the tutor each week. but it is a big risk to take incase it doesnt get me anywhere

A lot of colleges have onsite creches nowadays & some offer evening courses. I think learning hands on is better than learning online & most employers would probably view an online qualification as worthless compared to a college qualification.

Edit – I’ve been having my nails done for years, acrylics & gels. The only times I’ve ever had sh*t nails were the 2 times I let someone who learned online/at home. There’s no short cut to learning the job properly. My local college does an intensive beauty therapy course, 3 days a week, during school hours lasting for one academic year. However most people are qualified by Easter so it doesn’t take long. They also have a low cost creche. It’s worth checking out your local college.

I really want to take a free online course in makeup and beauty.
Where could I do this?

There are several pages that should help.

i would like to do my beauty therapy and nail technician course online but am a little bit wary thta the qualifications i would get a tthe end of it would not be the correct ones needed to begin work in this proffession. i understand the concept of SVQ and HNC/D’s but not too sure about ASET level 3 diploma. can some one please help as i dont want to waste my money if its all a scam and i wont be qualified at the end of these courses. please help!!!!!!!!
due to money commitments, i cannot afford to give up my job so going to college is out of the question folks. but i do agree with what you are saying, its important to have practical experience as well as theory.

I don’t know about the Uk, but I know a lot of people in the States who have taken online courses and they have been legit.
That being said, if what you are trying to learn is something you need to do hands on, it is probably better to do it in the traditional way. Will you really be able to be a nail technician if you’ve never actually worked on anyones nails before?

i need free online courses on how to look, act and deal like a confident and extremely attractive personality. It could be lessons on poise, posture, dressing, right accessory, etiquette, speech and beauty and fitness. Also courses on confidence building and image development are needed.

you asked for something free, but usually you will get what you pay for. if you truely want to learn, you’ll probably need to make the necessary sacrifices to invest. if i were you i’d read some popular books such as ‘how to win friends and influence people’ and as far as grooming, ask your friend that has the most style to help you! if you don’t have any friends with style, place a personal on craigslist.com, maybe someone can help you out! good luck :)

Will the summer holidays (roughly 2 months) be enough to do the course? Or does it take longer?

Checkout your local Adult College.
and search google for schools in your local area.
